Background. Cleft lip and palate (CLP) is the most common congenital malformation at the craniofacial level. Worldwide, the Republic of Moldova is 3.7 / 10000, which places us among the countries with the lowest prevalence [Lupan I., Granciuc Gh. 2004]. Objective of the study. Evaluation of the diagnosis by analysis of cephalometric parameters in children with complete unilateral cleft lip and palate. Material and methods. In this study, 24 cephalometric radiographs were analyzed according to the McNamara, Tweed, Rickets and Steiner method. For each patient, the cephalometric evaluation was performed by 4 different methods where 51 parameters were calculated. The study group included children aged 9-16, including 11 boys and 13 girls. Results. A total of 357 measurements revealed specific structural deficiencies in patients with complete unilateral cleft lip and palate. Retraction of the upper jaw towards the base of the skull is confirmed by the calculated values of the angles SNA, ANB, N-A-Pg. The reduced height of the posterior face and increased anterior height face demonstrate a clockwise rotation of the maxilla-mandibular complex. Deficiency of the upper jaw has been associated with a retroinclination of the upper incisors which is demonstrated by a significant deviation of the interincisal angle and Is / NA. Biometric parameters on study models show significant deviations of the transversal indices (p < 0.01), but less for the sagittal (p < 0.05). Conclusions. The cephalometric analysis of 24 patients with cleft lip and palate showed retraction of the upper jaw, which proved to be one of the biggest problems to be solved. There was a tendency in all patients to develop an unfavorable Class III skeletal pattern. |
