Background. Volatile basil oil (VBO) is characterized by the main constituents, such as: linalool, 1,8-cineole, eugenol, methyl cinnamate, camphor, chavicol methyl, carvacrol, α-bergamot, α-cadinol. The quantitative chemical composition varies in dependence of the chemotype and geographical origin. Objective of the study. Analysis of volatile basil oil in combined ear drops by gas-chromatographic (GC) method. Material and Methods. Combined ear drops with VBO content prepared in the laboratory; gas chromatograph Agilent Technologies 7890A, capillary column 60.0 m, 0.25 mm/0.25 μm, helium vector gas, speed 1.5 m/min, flame ionization detector with t° = 270°C; VBO, linalool standards, camphor, alpha-terpineol (Sigma Aldrich); hexan. Results. The inclusion of VBO in the eardrops is due to the pronounced antimicrobial and antifungal action. GC analysis was performed by recording the chromatograms of the reference standards and VBO, identifying the peaks of the basic components: eugenol, linalool, camphor, alpha-terpineol. VBO extraction from the pharmaceutical form was performed with hexane, with subsequent dilutions of the samples. The same basic peaks were identified on the chromatograms of the eardrop samples. The VBO content in linalool recalculation was determined. The results obtained show a recovery of 89.4% of VBO in the combined eardrops (RSD = 0.61%). Conclusion. The working technique developed for GC determination of VBO will serve as a basis for the standardization of combined eardrops. |
