Rezumat

The article highlights the importance of the traditional costume in the history of peoples, which differs from country to country or even from region to region, being considered a national logo. The traditional costume plays an important role in consolidating the national identity. Also, the ways of capitalizing on the clothing heritage through traditional costumes are argued. A symbol of elegance and proudly transmitting the cultural and heritage customs of the Oltenia region, the traditional port continues to arouse renewed enthusiasm and interest among Oltenia residents, especially among the younger generations. For many traditional designers, the holidays and other religious occasions are flourishing times of the year and conducive to the sale of traditional clothing that is sold as „the warm bread.” This remarkably illustrates that the new generations remain viscerally attached to ancestral traditions, customs and usages, deeply rooted in the southwestern region of the country despite the invading modern fashion. This handicraft from the mountainous area of the Oltenia region combining modernity and tradition, as well as the beauty and finesse of an art, already well anchored in the habits of the region. Remaining true to their ancestral origins and culture and strong in their spirit of creativity, craftsmen and stylists continue to give this traditional outfit, especially in the Tismana Gorjului area, an increasingly modern note, giving free rein to their imagination. In the region of northern Oltenia, the traditional dress worn during the festivals is almost the same for hundreds of years and is a symbol of the diversity and plurality of this civilized heritage. The final part of the article mentions that the traditional port is strongly threatened today by the invasion of products of foreign origin, especially made in China and other Asian countries, cheap and poor quality.
