Background. Iron deficiency anemia is the most common nutritional disorder in the world with major consequences for health not only in the short term, but also in the medium and long term. Children, young people, and women of reproductive age are most at risk of anemia. Objective of the study. Identification of risk factors, clinical features, the impact of iron deficiency anemia on health and quality of life in young children. Material and methods. The study included 75 children aged 3 months to 3 years (25% in urban areas, 75% in rural areas), diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia (Hb below 110g/l, the reference value for the age group). Most children (75.5%) come from low and medium living conditions. Results. Prenatal factors with a negative influence on the development of iron deficiency were gestosis - 26% of cases, urogenital infections in pregnancy - 36%, chronic diseases of the mother - 11%, anemia in pregnancy - 39% women. Common postnatal factors were malnutrition, overweight, frequently sick child, parasitic infestations. The clinical signs of iron deficiency anemia consisted of signs of hypoxia and signs of iron deficiency: pallor of the skin in all children, systolic murmur in the apex - 37.25% of children, dyspnea with moderate physical exertion - 25.5%, fatigue during eating - 72.16%, sleepiness - 52.55%, profuse sweating at 45.1%, stationary weight curve at 64.71% children. The data obtained from the analysis of hematological indices showed the average level of hemoglobin between 109-90 g/l in most children, and only in 10 (13%) cases the Hb level was below 90g/l. Conclusions. The combination of risk factors has a primary role in the pathophysiology of iron deficiency anemia in children: socio-economic, antenatal, postnatal, deficiencies in specific prophylaxis in children at risk groups. |
