Background. Employee health is an essential condition for ensuring a sustainable development of any country. This topic is included on the agenda of all actors involved in occupational health and safety. Objective of the study. Description of the trends in the health status of employees in relation to occupational risk factors, during the 2000-2021 period. Materials and methods. A retrospective descriptive cohort study was conducted on the health status of employees in the Republic of Moldova exposed to occupational risk factors. Data from the Statistical Report on State Surveillance and Control of Public Health (f.18-san) and secondary data available from open access databases were used. Results and discussions. During the reference period, the working population decreased by 30.0%, the number of employees exposed to occupational risk factors and eligible for periodic medical examinations by 20.5%, and the level of coverage with medical examinations is 84.8% - 98.7 %. Low values are characteristic for agriculture, wood processing, and furniture production, extractive industry. Annually, 2.8-3.7% of people with chronic diseases are detected and 0.2-0.9% of employees require permanent or temporary transfer to another job. Exposure to long working hours was the risk factor responsible for the highest number of DALYs (34.1%), followed by ergonomic factors (24.9%) and accidents at work (20.8%) in 2016. Conclusion. In order to improve the quality of periodic medical examinations and the occupational diseases diagnosis, it is necessary to translate the good practices of EU countries into national policies, taking into account the national context. |
