Leadership by contrast is a quality that struggles with change. One of the reasons it has become so impor-tant in recent years is that the business world has become increasingly competitive. These different functions - grappling with complexity and grappling with change - set specific activities for leadership and manage-ment. Each system of action involves decisions about what needs to be met, but each does so in different ways. Management develops that ability to achieve plans through organisation and coordination. The equivalent activity of leadership is guiding people. This means communicating the new direction to those who can create groups that understand the vision and are committed to making it a reality.
