Rezumat | |||||
Moldova is a European country both geographically and culturally, and aims to conform to the ideal of what it really means to be European both in terms of domestic policy and in its economic performance. Of all the countries in the EU’s eastern neighborhood, the Republic of Moldova is probably the closest to Europe, from several historical and cultural aspects, but also the fact that it was part of a current EU member state - Romania. More than one million citizens of the Republic of Moldova are already citizens of the European Union, holding dual citizenship of the Republic of Moldova and Romania, and therefore are also citizens of the EU. Thus, considering that in 2021 the population of the Republic of Moldova was 2,597,107 citizens, we can see that almost 40% of the entire population of the Republic of Moldova already has European citizenship. In addition, European integration has never been a simple foreign policy priority for Moldova, but a modernization project on a national scale. |
