Rezumat

Today more than 120 ceramic artifacts are known, associated with ceramic models of buildings. More than two dozen models are presented in private collections. This significantly complements the idea of such products. Researchers interpret the models of buildings as objects of sacred practice, which symbolically reflect sacred buildings – temples/shrines. According to the design features, there are two main categories of building models: I – models corresponding to a certain room, without the image of a roof (“open”); II – models in the form of a house (“closed”). I-category models show the interior, and II-category the exterior of buildings. In the settlements of the western part of the cultural complex Trypillia-Cucuteni, only category I models are presented. The vast majority of finds of models of both I and II categories were found in the Eastern areas between Southern Bug and Dnipro. The use of building models is most characteristic of the Volodymyrivka, Nebelivka and Tomashivka groups. Models of the I and II categories combine four structural details. 1) horizontal division into two rooms of unequal size – a small entrance part (“porch”) and the main room; 2) the presence of a round window opposite the entrance; 3) the presence of a narrow protrusion – a “gallery” that surrounds the main room on three sides; 4) installation of the model structure on high legs or a cylindrical pedestal. Models of the category I are divided into rectangular (square) and round (sometimes cup-shaped) according to their shape. Most of them are raised on 4-6 columnar legs. Individual specimens on a cylindrical pedestal. In most cases, the dimensions of category I models do not exceed 20 cm diagonally or in diameter. A feature of the models of the 1st group is the reproduction of such interior details as the altar, stove, podium with pifos. In some cases, there are anthropomorphic figurines. Category II models are characterized by a rectangular plan, varying in size from small specimens 20 cm long to very large ones up to 40 cm long. Thereare two types of roof shape – with an arched roof and gable/four-gable roof. Most of the models of the II group are on legs, but there are examples on a cylindrical pedestal. For models of the II group, the image of the structural details of the building is characteristic. In most cases, the gable of the building is crowned with bucrania. The obvious correspondence of the interior of the models of the 1st category was traced during excavations in some dwellings of the settlements of the Volodymyr, Nebelivka, and Tomasivka groups. The design of the arched roof and the entrance of the II category models finds correspondence in the image of early Mesopotamian and Egyptian temples. Excavations of the “megastructure” at the Nebelivka revealed structural details that match the models of both categories. This is a podium with pifos, altars, a gallery around the perimeter of the building, clay constructions of an arched entrance.
