One of the less researched actors of the events related to the RussoTurkish War of 1806-1812, involved in the politico-diplomatic actions, who trafficked influence on the Russian-Ottoman negotiations was the influential and rich Armenian Manuc (Emanuel), known at the time as Manuc Bey (1769–1817). Originally known as a merchant of Armenian descent south of the Danube, he ended his career as a knight of the Order of St. Vladimir (3rd degree), Russian state counselor (equivalent to the rank of general), informant of Russian diplomacy, banker and landowner rich, with ambitious economic plans in Bessarabia. 36 He actively played his role as an intermediary in the secret peace negotiations between Russian and Ottoman diplomacy, being a useful agent for Russia in promoting influence peddling. During the Russo-Turkish War and until 1817, the year of his death, Manuc Bey carried out a multilateral, secret and complex activity of diplomacy, commercial affairs and politics, which made it difficult to identify his loyalties and ambitions.
