Radiological features of chronic heart failure secondary to congenital heart
diseases associated with pulmonary hypertension
Children with chronic heart failure (CHF) secondary to congenital heart diseases (CHD)
associated with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) of different grades, having the highest
frequency in the structure of cardiac diseases at children, represent an important issue for the
paediatric cardiologists and have certain diagnostical, pathophysiological, clinical-evolutive and
therapeutical peculiarities. Our study has contained 254 children with CHF secondary to CHD
with/without PAH of different grades, with the age between 0 and 17 years. The X - Ray exam
emphasized the radiological features characteristically to CHF secondary to congenital systemicto-
pulmonary shunts relevant to the grade of PAH: prominent PA segment and proximal
pulmonary arterials, dilated hilar vessels with clear lung fields, with the tendency of diminishing
the peripherical vascularization are common to the severe grade of PAH with the increasing of
Moore index (0,43±0,01), which signifies a dilatation of the IIIrd grade of PA versus PAH,
moderate grade and CHF without PAH (p<0,001). |
