Anthropogenic activities can generate certain forms of pollution and change in climate, aquatic resources, flora and fauna. Environmental degradation is both a risk factor for disaster and a cause for increasing the vulnerability of communities to chance. The existence of adequate sanitation and proper wastewater treatment are the basic conditions for a healthy environment in urban and rural settlements. Uncontrolled discharge of raw wastewater poses a threat to public health and the environment. Waterborne diseases particularly affect children, vulnerable groups and adults, which can significantly impede a country's economic development. |
