Bladder, bowel and sexual dysfunctions in patients with multiple sclerosis
The majority of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) experience bladder, bowel and
sexual dysfunctions during the course of the disease. This is one of the most disabling features in
MS. This study estimated the frequency and correlation between these problems among patients
with MS. The study involved 32 patients with definite MS, that were examined clinically,
including scoring of the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), and questionnaires related to
bladder (International Prostate Symptom Score - IPSS) and bowel dysfunction. Multiple
Sclerosis Quality of Life Questionnaire – 54 was used to asses sexual dysfunction. More than
half the patients had bladder and sexual problems. A significant correlation was found between
bladder and sexual dysfunction. Bowel symptoms are often reported in MS, constipation being
the most common. |

Multiple Sclerosis Quality of Life Questionnaire – 54 a fost utilizat pentru evaluarea disfuncţiei sexuale.
