On the 9 of July, the African Union received the 54th community member while the UN has become larger with a new independent state of Southern Sudan. This part of Soudan is very rich in oil resources, but has experienced 50 years of civil war that opposed the Christians in the south with Muslims in North. To the end of the war there were about 2 million dead civilians and a peace agreement signed on 9 January 2005 between the Sudan Liberation Army and the popular government in Khartuom. The autonomy agreement provides for a period of large autonomy and the organization of a referendum that has led to recognition of South Sudan. According to some experts the individual case of South Sudan is a dangerous precedent for the current separatist movements.
