L’activité terminologique de nommer et de définir les éléments du patrimoine culturel assure par le biais de la fixation terminographique et du travail de vulgarisation et de promotion nationale la pérennisation des concepts et dans une certaine mesure constitue une action de conservation du patrimoine dans la langue et dans la mémoire collective du public non spécialisé, surtout lorsque les pratiques concernées sont menacées par les conséquences de la mondialisation et du développement technique et scientifique. L’activité de traduction réalisée en aval de l’activité terminologique contribue à la promotion du patrimoine culturel national à l’échelle internationale. Elle devient un puissant agent de promotion dans la nouvelle réalité marquée par la diversité culturelle et le partage. Sur fond de politiques de conservation et de promotion du patrimoine culturel, nous nous proposons de cerner la contribution de la traduction et de la terminologie dans le contexte de telles initiatives.

The terminological endeavor of naming and defining the elements of cultural heritage ensures through terminographical fixation, popularization and national promotion work the sustainability of concepts and to a certain extent constitutes an action of heritage preservation in the language and in the collective memory of the non-specialist audience, especially when the practices concerned are threatened by the consequences of globalization and of technical and scientific development. The translation activity, carried out after the terminological activity, contributes to the promotion of national cultural heritage on an international scale. It becomes a powerful agent of promotion in the new reality marked by cultural diversity and cultural sharing. Against the background of policies for the conservation and promotion of cultural heritage, our aim is to identify the contribution of translation and terminology in the context of such initiatives.
