The paper aims at bringing into focus a complex study on a new aromatic species for the Republic of Moldova, Elsholtzia stauntonii Benth., which has been introduced and researched in the National Botanical Garden (Institute). The research included the identification of the biological peculiarities of development of this species, the determination of the essential oil content and the chemical composition, the establishment of the optimal propagation methods and the elaboration of the primary cultivation processes. Elsholtzia stauntonii Benth. is a species with high potential in aromatherapy, perfumery, phytotherapy and gastronomy. The essential oil produced by it has antibacterial, antiviral, astringent, carminative, diuretic and stomachic properties. Elsholtzia stauntonii Benth. can also be grown as an ornamental and honey plant.
