The European Union citizenship represents a major conceptual innovation of the Maastricht Treaty which includes rights, obligations and the participation at the political life. Also, the European citizenship visas the consolidation of the European Union’s image and identity, and a deeper citizen’s involvement in the European integration process. The European Union citizenship completes the national citizenship, it superposes itself, without to substitute the national citizenship, so making possible to exert some rights of the EU citizen both in the state of origin and in any other EU state. |
