Rezumat

The article describes the situation of the economy of the Republic of Moldova after about 20 years of transition from socialism. As a benchmark for the state of the economy, is taken the depth of the impact exercised on it by the recent global economic crisis. In this respect, in order to give better understanding of the situation, a reference is made in the article to the development of the economy of Poland.Main conclusions bought by the author are related to the need to review the role of the state in the Moldavian economy and also of the modalities to deliver the social function of the state. Another aspect touched in the article is regarded to the principle of the “knowledge based society” which can offer positive perspectives for the Moldavian economy, if it can be enforced by a well correlated and integrated model of economic growth, or better defined: “economic catch-up”. As a departure point for it, the author suggests the economic model applied by the countries from the South-east Asian region in the second part of the XX’s century.
