Rezumat

Corruption is a widespread phenomenon in the world, affecting government, economic activities, emphasising disparities and, ultimately, affecting the most disadvantaged, the poor. Southern Eastern countries are deeply affected by this scourge, due to a variety of factors ranging from poverty, lack of education, information to economic and political instability. The effect of corruption can only be disastrous, highlighting the lack of economic and social progress. The fight against corruption has become a priority for most national governments and international and regional organisations. Models to follow are the states of the European Union and Council of Europe, which have an articulated legislation, supported by a rigorous application. The Council of Europe is an important promoter of the fight against corruption with its own regulatory framework and strategy in the field of prevention and fight against corruption. National anticorruption strategies are based on several directions: rule of law, transparency and political accountability, administrative efficiency, optimal competitive bussiness environment and social openess. The Republic of Moldova is supporting the fight against different forms of corruption and is taking attitude under the impulse of the Council of Europe. Generally speaking, until present the results are not remarkable in this field.
