Geopolitical changes in South-Eastern Europe in the late XVIIIth century created a new framework for the assertion of capitalist relations and a progressive development of the economy of the Romanian Principalities. The political and economic realities led phasizing the Greek element in the Principalities, occupation which was is trade and craft. To sense the weight of Greek element in the Romanian Principalities at the end of the XVIIIth century we will use census organized by the authorities in 1771-1774. Greek community appears to use the inhabitants versus sectoral being present in various social categories, governors, merchants, peasants, craftsmen. They manage to fit in Romanian society, most of them being romanized. |
