Rezumat

In the so-called Phanar era, when the Phanariot Greeks dominated the political system in the Romanian Principalities, the institution of the reign was extremely unstable, demonstrating extreme mobility in the sense of frequent change or oscillation of voivodes from the throne of Moldova to Wallachia and vice versa. There were about 30 rulers, generally short reigns of princes (for one or rarely more than two years), of the representatives of the 11 large families in Constantinople (and not only): Callimachi, Caragea, Hangerli, Ghica, Mavrocordat, Mavrogheni, Moruzi, Racoviță, Ruset (Rosetti), Suțu, Ypsilanti. We remind you that not all the lords of the Phanariot era were of Greek ethnicity. A special place is the share and diplomatic role of the Phanariot families, among which the Ypsilanti and Moruzi stand out. These dragoman-rulers were educated people, polyglots, versed in letters and arts, read theological and Western literature, often being carriers of new, innovative ideas. They could even apply some of their knowledge in practice, although they thought mainly not about the good of the Romanians, but about their Greek compatriots. Everyday life of the elites of the principalities changes significantly in the time frame of this era, that is, approximately between the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. In turn, consumption patterns also influence what defines cultural categories, tastes, fashions of the time, and mentality.
