Rezumat

In this article we intend to show the possibility of modern and postmodern revisiting of the representations contained in medieval bestiaries. When these representations lose their validity or appropriateness to the reality format, reconfigured after some ideological changes or changes in methods of knowledge, they are stored in the cultural memory and in the history of mentalities in form of some cultural, mental, imaginary and not empirical realities. They begin to operate exclusively in a space of poetic imagination like cultural references, which retain a certain structure, a symbolic content, a history of the reception and the functioning in time. Thus, the animal image from a text gain a history of the reception, contextualization, interpretation, the updating or, in postmodern terms, a history of “revisiting” or “recycling”. The two examples of such revisiting of the old literary tradition of bestiary are Le Bestiaire ou Cortège d’Orphée and El libro de los seres imaginarios de J. L. Borges and M. Guerrero.
