At different levels of analysis, the medical terminology has a series of distinct characteristics: a) at morphological level: the presence of terminological elements (Greek-Latin lexical units, which initially had a full lexical signification, and at the moment are elements of a compound word) as composing units in the mechanism of medical terms formation; b) at lexical level: the predomination of medical terms composed through affixoidation, Latin loan words etc.; c) at semantic level: the semasiological approach generates the „reuse” of the words through association of new concepts, produces the „remodeling” and formation of new terms; d) at functional level: national/international dimensions in the formation, establishment and functioning of the medical terminology in the Romanian language. |
