In the collection of Elena Niculiță-Voronca, The Customs and Beliefs of the Romanian People Gathered and Placed in Mythological Order, have a particular role in the beliefs regarding the popular holidays and the taboos related to them. The author noted the attitude of peasant respect towards Sunday and the main Christian holidays in which any activity for the benefit of the individual is prohibited. Although the sacred time is perceived as such by the Romanian peasant, the celebration of the holidays necessarily involves a pragmatic component. |
