Being a part of a larger series, the present study encompasses the Moldovan national and corporate awards, currently conferred for military merits. This second episode consists of a detailed history of the establishment, manufacturing and improving of the Order „Ștefan cel Mare” (Stephen the Great, prince of Moldavia from 1457 to 1504) – the supreme military distinction of the Republic of Moldova, instituted on July 30, 1992, together with other national newly created distinctions. The concept of the order is due to the plastic artist Simion Odainic. The first series of 1.000 achievements was manufactured by the State Mint of Bucharest. On July 2, 2019 (Stephen the Great died on July 2, 1504), the Order „Ștefan cel Mare” consists of 422 knights, most of them being participants in the military conflict for the maintaining of the independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova carried on the Dniester River in 1992. Many of them were distinguished post-mortem. The Order is one of the most beautiful conceptual and artistic achievements in the series established in 1992 and the most prestigious distinction of the Republic of Moldova. |
