This study work describes F1 Salvia sclarea hybrids in the second year of vegetation created at the Institute of Genetics, Physiology and Plant Protection. In the Laboratory "Aromatic and Medicinal Plants" is carried out a series of studies of genetic improvement methods, aimed at creating, improving sources of germplasm, new genotypes that are more productive and more resistant to environmental conditions. The process of creating of new hybrids is indispensably linked to the creation and reproduction of the original breeding material, which includes genotypes of different genetic and geographical origins, hybrids of different types, inbred lines with valuable quantitative characters. The main purpose of improving aromatic and medicinal plants is to create new hybrids, varieties with high raw material production, with different vegetation periods, high content of essential oil, resistant to abiotic factors. For the creation of Salvia sclarea F1 hybrids, parental forms have been used that possess characters, exceptional features for improvement and development of new hybrids. Our research has led to the creation of a number of different varieties of hybrids of different complexity F1-F15, which are a valuable amelioration material for the development of new varieties of hybrid origin. The biological material used consist of 15 F1 hybrids of different types: simple, trilinear, double, stepped and complexes of Salvia sclarea L. The hybrids evaluated are divided into three maturation groups: early, with vegetation period of 58–66 days; intermediaries – 67–71 days and late – 72–77 days. Studied hybrid combinations are distinguished by quantitative characters as: plant height (79.5–134.0 cm), the length of the inflorescence (46.7–73.6 CM) and the number of branches of the first and the second level of the inflorescence (26.6–44.6). Created and selected hybrids recorded a very high content of essential oil: 1,019–1,750%, with remarkable quantitative characters (big inflorescences, compact, with large number of branches). |
