Background. Climate changes poses a significant threat to human health. The main challenges posed by climate change include heat and cold waves and particularly their impact on human activities and health. Objective of the study. To highlight the interconnection between heat/cold waves and human healthcare issues. Material and Methods. A descriptive bibliographic research was carried out. The presented information is a literature review of 19 sources of scientific articles from the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Russia, and Great Britain. Results. Exposure to extreme temperatures can alter the body thermoregulatory mechanisms and reduce resistance to extreme temperatures in the overall population. The most affected occupations are as follows: farmers, builders, drivers, as well as employees who work in enclosed spaces without complying to the working conditions (access to the air conditioning, drinking water, breaks during working hours, medical assistance on the spot for work). In addition, not all the healthcare workers are provided with appropriate working conditions, which actually do not meet the requirements; moreover, there is a stress-related condition to working overload due to the increased flow of patients. Conclusion. The impact of heat / cold waves on medical workers can be reduced by providing adequate working conditions, on the one hand, directly within the healthcare system and on the other hand, for all professions, in order to lower the workload of healthcare workers |
