Background. Therapeutic education (TE) is the process of influencing behavior to produce changes in knowledge, attitudes and practices necessary to maintain or improve health. This increases the level of awareness of the disease, adherence to treatment and control of the disease, including Hypertension. Objective of the study. The aim was to study national and international data on the therapeutic education of patients with hypertension to present current practices in primary health care (PHC). Material and Methods. In this descriptive study, the national data were analyzed, containing the key words “therapeutic education” and the normative framework in relation to the education of people with hypertension. For the study of international practices, the international secondary epidemiological studies dating the last 3 years were analyzed. Results. At the national level, TE isn`t defined, although the term has been used in the media. The patients education with non-communicable diseases is regulated at the level of PHC by 5 basic normative acts, without a clear description of its organization and evaluation. Internationally, in low- and middle-income countries, TE is conducted on the basis of different educational programs, without identifying the elements of the educational process, stipulated by the World Health Organization (WHO). At the same time, in the high-income countries, the TE is clearly defined and structured according to standards, which has determined the effectiveness of the intervention. Conclusion. In Moldova, similar to low- and middle-income countries, the patients TE with hypertension requires the definition of the concept, the process of organization, implementation and evaluation according to WHO standards to increase disease awareness, treatment adherence and blood pressure control. |
