Articolul este consacrat publicării și interpretării unor materiale cartografice noi și necunoscute până în prezent, care elucidează topografia principalelor monumente, aflate în microregiunea vadului peste Dunăre lângă lacul Cartal. El constă din patru schițe separate, reunite după principiul geografic și cel tematic. În secțiunea „Cartografia anilor 1770-1775” sunt descrise primele hărți topografice și hidrografice ale regiunii, sunt publicate fragmentele a două din ele – din aa. 1770-1771. În a doua secțiune – „Hărțile secolului XIX și descrierea cetății Isaccea din a. 1819” continuă schița de istorie a cartografierii în secolul al XIX-lea și sunt publicate fragmente de hărți din anii 1877-1878 și 1912. Schița este însoțită de o descriere, practic, necunoscută a cetăților Isaccea și Tulcea și a drumului dintre ele, elaborată de F.F. Berg în anul 1919 (anexa 2), iar primele două compartimente – de „Lista hărților și planurilor puțin cunoscute ale regiunii vadului” (anexa 1). Al treilea compartiment este consacrat cartografiei și topografiei fortificației Cartal. El se bazează, mai ales, pe materialele arheologice, cartografice și iconografice ale expediției lui A.S. Uvarov din anul 1848, care au fost republicate integral (anexa 3). În afară de aceasta, autorul a publicat hărți, necunoscute anterior, de dimensiuni mari, din anii 1940 și 1985. În compartimentul „Linia terestră a fortificației de la Cartal” sunt abordate probleme discutabile ale datării ei. În baza hărților și a materialelor de arhivă, a fost contestată cu argumente opinia că ea reprezintă vestigiile liniei de apărare a armatei ruse din timpurile Frontului român (aa. 1916-1917).

The article is devoted to the publication and interpretation of new and previously unknown cartographic materials that illuminate the topography of the main monuments located in the micro-region of the Danube crossing near the Lake of Kartal. It consists of four separate essays, grouped geographically and thematically. In the section “Cartography of the 1770-1775s” the first topographic and hydrographic maps of the region are described, fragments of two of them of 1770-1771 were published. In the second section “Maps of the 19th century and the description of the Isaccea fortress in 1819”, an essay on the history of mapping in the 19th century was continued, and fragments of maps of 1877-1878 and 1912 were published. It is accompanied by an almost unknown description of the fortresses of Isaccea and Tulcea and the road between them, compiled by F.F. Berg in 1919 (Appendix 2), and the first two sections – “List of little-known maps and plans of the crossing area” (Appendix 1). The third section is devoted to the cartography and topography of the Kartal settlement. It is based mainly on the archaeological, cartographic and iconographic materials of the expedition of A.S. Uvarov 1848, which were republished in full (Appendix 3). In addition, the author published previously unknown large-scale maps of 1940 and 1985. The section “Kartal field defensive line” deals with the controversial problems of its dating. On the basis of maps and archival materials, the opinion that it is the remnants of the defensive line of the Russian army of the times of the Romanian Front (1916-1917) was argued.
