Background. Migraine is a disabling neurological disorder, representing the 19th cause of disability. Despite the fact that there is a lot of research on this topic, however, it is not yet a single opinion about the most important factors of the chronicity of migraine. Objective of the study. The purpose of the research was the study of other risk factors, less known, but in the opinion of many authors, they are risk factors with a very important weight. Material and Methods. Using the search engine Google Scholar, the most relevant studies have been selected for performing a systematic review of publications on this topic, in English, from the last 5 years. After the complete analysis of the literature, a number of new factors have been identified, which attracted the attention of researchers. Results. The Google Scholar search provided 439 articles, of which 72 proved to be potentially eligible, 60 reviews and 12 meta-analyses. Based on the selected articles, there have been analyzed the most important factors that make the pain chronic, including anxiety, depression, trauma, drug abuse etc. Publications have been identified that highlight an important role of the post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD), which may be divided into 2 categories: a) PTSD related to natural and social phenomena: tornadoes, floods, war, severe accidents etc.; and b) phenomena in the spectrum of interpersonal relationships: moral harassment in the family and at workplace. Conclusion. This systematic review of new risk factors, so far little studied, has highlighted a new spectrum of migraine chronicity factors, which may provide important information on the mechanisms, treatment and prevention of chronic migraine. |
