The facts of the ritual use of the main types of bread at Masnytsa, varenyky (boiled dumplings) and mlyntsy (pancakes) in the Ukrainians in the XIX – early XXI centuries are analyzed in the article. Bread was considered as an important cultural symbol, concentrating the pagan and Christian world views of the Ukrainians, of the people with the ancient developed agrarian experience. The author pointed out the peculiarities of the use and function of varenyky (boiled dumplings) and mlyntsy (pancakes) in the ritual of Masnytsa, their importance in the world view of Ukrainians, and identified parallels in the ritual practice of European peoples and, in particular, of the Slavs.
