In the following article attempts were made to trace the connection between the rise of the Spanish picaresque fiction and one of the early autobiographical narrative forms, which was the compulsory confession report to the tribunal of the Inquisition, a narrative type that emerged during the medieval period in Spain. I tried to state the main features of these confessions that influenced and outlined the form and content of the Spanish picaresque novels in the century that followed. |
