Referring to Latin used in medical terminology, some researchers view it as "a dead language", which saves the alive. However, we consider the phrase ―a dead language‖ to be untrue, as the vitality of Latin is proved in the process of forming terminology, in general, and of the medical terminology, in particular. The Latin language performs the following terminological functions: a) a language of communication in medicine (Latin terms, Latin formulas in medical pedagogy, medical prescriptions in Latin, etc.); b) a language-source of extraction, contributing to the creation of new terms, international level. Latin phrases represent one of the forms in medical pedagogy. Our aim was to classify the terminological phrases based on the following criteria: morphological, structural, functional, etc. |
