Rezumat

The interwar period was in itself an extremely complex world. It was a time when the traditional Romanian local elite was joined by an important segment of intellectuals from various other areas of the country, both from Transylvania and the Old Kingdom. The phenomenon was part of a fully justified action of the Romanian state and of an obvious normality, meant to consolidate the union from 1918. Similar phenomena occurred in all Central European states after the First World War, including Hungary and Austria. It is a phenomenon specific to all newly formed nation-states regardless of the era in which this happened. The edges of the new states needed a solid connection with the center for their viability. This was achieved also by culturally balancing these spaces, which are geographically marginal to the center, with intellectuals willing to make this effort
