Scientific results show reports of SARS-CoV-2 infection in children.Recent findings have shown that one of the complications of COVID-19 in previously healthy infants is caused by damage to the cerebral vessels, expressed by cerebrovascular manifestations, such as ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. In the paper we described 2 previously healthy infant children who suffered disabling ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes due to inflammation and postinfectious cerebral thrombotic angiopathies. Both infants (boys) were hospitalized in the infant neurology department. One child presented clinical manifestations characteristic of a stroke the day after the onset of the first symptoms of infection, the second - 3 weeks after the disease. The diagnosis was confirmed by brain imaging examinations, which showed evidence of diffuse inflammatory, vascular, destructive-necrotic damage. Although COVID-19 virus can affect brain damage and the development of stroke in previously healthy infants, it should not have diagnostic delays. Prompt recognition of stroke symptoms in SARS-CoV-2 cases and early initiation of treatment may be associated with promising clinical results. |
