The liturgical inventory of churches and monasteries in Bessarabia is a component part of the country’s cultural heritage. The analysis of archive files and available publications allowed us to specify the most common ornaments in Bessarabian churches and monasteries. The documents on the legislation in the field of metal art proved the fact that in Bessarabia at the beginning of the 19th century were introduced several provisions. This fact allows us to state that during the time of Metropolitan bishop Gavriil Banulescu-Bodoniwas laid the foundation that conditioned the development of the cult goldsmithing. As early as 1815, Metropolitan bishop Gavriil Banulescu Bodoni initiated the process of prohibiting the production of ornaments made of base metals, introducing the obligation to make silver ornaments with the title higher than 84 zolotnik; only craftsmen specialized in the field were allowed to produce cult ornaments. These regulations were valid in Bessarabia throughout the 19th century, without essential changes in the interwar period, marking the development of church goldsmithing, some legislative and fundamental aspects being initiated or confirmed during the time of Metropolitan bishop Gavriil Banulescu-Bodoni. |
