Rezumat

In the study of „Bishop Mitrofan and the Bible from Bucharest of 1688” the authors try to show that the preparation for printing of the first Romanian Bible edition (Bucharest, 1688) took place in two stages: the first – in Iasi (late 1670s – spring 1686) by the effort of the Metropolitan of Moldova Dosoftei and the Bishop of Huşi – Mitrofan, and the second one – in Bucharest (autumn 1686 – autumn 1688), through the effort of the same bishop Mitrofan, refugee in Wallachia, and Serban and Radu Greceanu brothers with the support of Serban Cantacuzino, the ruler of Wallachia, and Atanasie the Metropolitan of Ungrovlahia. At the same time, it is possible that the printing of the Bible would been accomplished in Iasi, if the intervention in Moldova in 1686 of Jan Sobieski, the king of Poland, wouldn’t have taken place.
