Rezumat

Corn should not be missing from our daily food, because the rich content of vitamins is an antioxidant rich in nutrients that ensure the needs of the human body. Due to these uses, found on a larger scale, in terms of quality in corn, there are special objectives, which require the development of special hybrids. In the Institute of Crop Science “Porumbeni” the corn with special qualities used in the food industry began to be studied more intensively, with the formation of the laboratory „Breeding corn for quality”. Which deals with the evaluation of inbred lines and use their in hybrid combinations. Cultivated native or foreign hybrids, or newly created in culture, are used as sources of initial materials, as well as inbred lines, selected as parental forms, from the everta group. A special category of initial material is special gene sources. These are inbred lines that possess special genes to improve grain quality, productivity, and so on. Which in turn are used to the fullest in all possible crossings. The main elements in the improvement of popcorn were, the evaluation of local populations, inbred lines from the Institute's collection, qualitative and productive hybrids, according to technological and gustatory indices. The hybrids selected with the best specific qualities of the grain, are tested and evaluated annually within the comparative orientations, pre-competition and competition tests in the Institute of Crop Science „Porumbeni”. The main purpose of the breeder is the development and implementation in production of productive hybrids, which cope with those on the world market and in Moldova. The research carried out on the given corn also imposes on the breeders some directions for creating and implementing the best hybrids, which respectively differ from the ordinary corn hybrids by the following characteristics: biochemical composition, hardness and grain color (orange). For development popcorn inbred lines and hybrids are used world collections and local materials. To create the perspective hybrids, were selected inbred lines with the orange seeds, the appearance of pleasant popcorn kernels, taste, finesse and high expansion. In the process of development of inbred lines are used different sources of germplasm with special qualities. Some lines, such as: MKE 4691, MKE 6913, MKE 5151, MKE 4025, MKE 4221, MKE 9408, MKE 4565 are used as parental forms in registered hybrids. As a result of the thorough evaluation of the parental forms listed above that were involved in the topccros schemes, the Porumbeni 398 E was obtained, having better results were level with the standard hybrids Porumbeni 394 E and Porumbeni 396 E.
