Based on the results of socio-demographic research conducted at national level in the
Republic of Moldova, the author addresses the issue of improvement of social protection
policies in the context of the significantly decreased birth rate and reduction of children weight
in the total population. The author analyses the family values in the general hierarchy of
values, the reproductive trends and its factors. In the article are presented the main directions
of state policies related to social protection of family and to improving the quality of life of
Moldovan population.
The author describes the experience of other countries in demographic policies. It
draws attention to the role that outside family education services have in the social protection
system and to creation of favourable conditions for joining a professional and parental roles.
