Rezumat | ||||||
The paper tackles the representation of subjective life in the novel ‘The Portrait of a Lady’ by Henry James. Moreover, the study considers some parallel aspects in the works of two famous American born brothers, William and Henry James, who both explored the concept of consciousness and subjective life in their works in the late nineteenth – early twentieth centuries. Finally, it appears that Henry James’s predilection for representing impressions and emotions of the characters in his novels shows that Henry James is quite interested in portraying the subjective life of his characters through emotions and perceptions, therefore, various aspects in the novel are described from different and subjective points of view. |
