In the given article are revealed the non military NATO programs, that are ba- sed on ecologic and scientific projects. It treats the importance of the international organisations that deal with this kind of problems. These factors allow to stress the charcter of the NATO activity in the given areas. The author stresses out, the fact that there is no strict delimitation between the environment protection and the scientific ac- tivity. This is because the environment protection implies studying natural processes. The necessity of regional and international colaboration in the area of environment protection is being prooved. Together with the appearance of new global challenges, the role of non military NATO programes increases, thus the political non-military cooperation gains importance.
