The article examines the social factors that influence on the participation of certain
parts of the population of the Republic of Moldova at the parliamentary elections on 5th of April,
2009 and it is based on the results of the sociological survey conducted in the spring of 2009 by
the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of the Republic of Moldova. It also contains
the key findings of the report: "The sociological support of the electoral process: the experience
of the Republic of Moldova", compiled by the author and included in the program of the 18th
annual conference of the Association of European Election Officials, held on September 2-5,
2009 in Yerevan, Armenia.
