This article examines the civil society phenomenon, and its progression form historical and conceptual perspectives. It is underlined that there is no unitary and unanimous concept regarding the definition of the civil society. The authors analyze mainly the role of the civil society, as an actor of the democratic process, and as an element of the consolidation of democracy in contemporaneous societies. As well, some aspect regarding the way civil society’s actors get involved in identifying appropriate solutions for the political and socio-economic challenges post-soviet countries face, are analyzed. All the analysis take into consideration, systematically and constantly, national context in the frame of which civil organization societies develop, as well regional circumstances, powerful influenced by European integration processes.
