The remarkable biological activity of acid hydrazides R–CO–NH–NH2, their corresponding aroylhydrazones, R-CO-NH–N=CH–R΄, and the dependence of their mode of chelation with transition metal ions have been of significant interest. As part of our research in the study of coordinating capabilities of isonicotinoylhydrazones and their coordination compounds we report here the synthesis and characterization of oxovanadium(V) complex [VO2(HL)]·2H2O (1) comprising coordinated condensation product of isonicotinoylhydrazide with 3-methoxy-2-hydroxybenzaldehydes (H2L). X-ray crystallography revealed that compound 1 has a molecular structure built from mononuclear [VO2(HL)] entities (fig. 1) and solvate water molecules in 1: 2 ratio. The crystal is triclinic, space group P-1, a = 7.3579(4), b = 10.4241(6), c = 10.6687(5) Å, α = 107.085(5)º, β = 97.827(4)º, γ = 91.812(5)º, V = 772.67(7) Å3, Z = 2 for C14H12VN3O7. The vanadium(V) atom adopts a square-pyramidal geometry coordinated by the tridentate Schiff base ligand stabilized in E form and two oxygen atoms in cis positions.. The N1–N2 = 1.401(3), N2–C8 = 1.290(4) and C8–O2 = 1.300(3) (Å) bond distances put in evidence the enolate form of the amide functionality. The average V=O and V–O bond lengths are comparable to those observed in other vanadium(V) Schiff base complexes [1, 2]. X-ray diffraction study has demonstrated the protonation of the pyridine ring, which was also observed earlier in VV complexes with a related ligand [2,3]. The crystal structure is characterised as a supramolecular 3D network, sustained by the N-H…O, O-H…O hydrogen bonds and π···π stacking interactions.figureFig. 1. Molecular structure of 1 |
