Background. Temporo-mandibular joint dysfunction meets a large number of clinical manifestations that include masticatory, muscular, articular and associated structures disorders. Among the main factors leading to its installation can be listed: the condition of the masticatory muscles, occlusion. Objective of the study. Evaluation of diagnostic aspects in order to plan the future prosthetic treatment of patients with temporomandibular joint dysfunctions. Material and Methods. The study group included 10 patients (6 w., 4 m.) aged between 30 and 55 years, who had allegations of limiting mandibular dynamics, amplitude of mouth opening, muscle fatigue and joint noises. All patients underwent clinical-instrumental examination, radiological examination, computed tomography of the TMJ, electromyography of the mobilizing muscles and occlusion examination. Results. Based on the complex examination as well as the analysis of the clinical picture of patients with TMJ dysfunctions, it was established that the subjective and objective symptoms are based on the presence of occlusal disharmonies. Their evolution is influenced by the functional disorders at the level of the dental arches, manifested by the insufficiency of the masticatory act, of the neuro-muscular complex and of the TMJ. The analysis of computed tomography of the TMJ did not determine the disorder of the correlation between the component elements, however, there were signs of sclerosis of the cortical plate, of the articular condyles and of the articular fossa. Conclusion. The study of occlusion is fundamental in identifying the etiological factors and establishing the correct diagnosis of temporomandibular joint dysfunctions, in developing the optimal prosthetic treatment strategy, and applying effective prophylaxis measures. |
