Background. Precancerous lesions of the oral mucosa, identified as potentially malignant, are found in a group of diseases, which in recent years tend to be detected in the early stages of evolution. Precocious diagnosis gives possibility to prevent progression to cancer and its complications. Objective of the study. The goal of this research is to investigate the correlation of the head and neck premalignant disorders with high-risk Human Papillomavirus (HPV+) and their progression to cancer. Material and Methods. Prospective and retrospective cohort study of premalignant lesion patient aged between 18 and 89 undergoing routine area of suspicious lesions. Results. The study group included 30 patients who underwent incisional mucosal biopsies. Lichen planus was diagnosed in 35% of cases, both submucosal fibrosis and leukoplachia were diagnosed in 20% of cases each, 25% lies with other pathologies. Conclusion. According to the obtained data, Ki-67 high expression is attributed to a negative prognostic marker in patients with premalignant lesions. P16 and p53 proteins expression may also be affected in oral premalignant lesions and it may serves as an indicator of high risk malignancy lesions. |
