Background. Epilepsy is a neurological problem that obstetricians-gynecologists frequently face. The management of pregnancy, childbirth and the early neonatal period remains a very complicated medical problem Objective of the study. Purpose of the study is the assessment of labor in pregnant women with epilepsy for the development of measures that would decrease the frequency of certain complications to mother and fetus. Material and Methods. To achieve the proposed goal we conducted the study, which included a group of 318 pregnant women who gave birth at IMSP IM and C during the years 2015-2019. The pregnant women were divided into 2 groups, the research group consisted of 156 pregnant women with epilepsy, the control group of 156 healthy pregnant women. Microsoft Excel 2010 was used for the analysis. Results. At the patients with epilepsy, premature birth occurs 3.0 times more frequently, thus in 11.54 ± 3.0% cases VS 4.35 ± 1.8% of the control group. Higher frequency of cesarean section in pregnant women with epilepsy 44.87±4.0% compared to the control group, of which 24.29±5.8% of cases and 31.42%±3,8% mixed indications were operated on due to neurological indications. (neuro-obstetric) and 44.29%±4,0% respectively according to obstetric indications. In 58.6%±4,8% of cases, urgent cesarean operations were performed in pregnant women with epilepsy, but in 4.3%±1,8% it was performed due to convulsions during labor. Conclusion. The presented data confirm the consistently high incidence of premature birth, labor hemorrhages and cesarean section in pregnant women with epilepsy in the R.M. D’rs' fear of the possible development of the convulsions in labor has a significant impact on the decision in favor of cesarean section. |
