Background. The aspiration of foreign bodies (FB) in children’s respiratory tract is a major urgency, even in the asymptomatic cases that can endanger the child's life at any time. Objective of the study. The evaluation of the etiology of airway foreign bodies and endoscopic particularities in children. Material and Method. The cohort analytical study includes 215 children with foreign body aspiration, who underwent a bronchoscopy in the Endoscopy Department for over the period 2012-2019. The bronchoscopy executed with pediatric rigid bronchoscope (Karl Sorz 3,5–6,0mm), flexible bronchoscope BF3C160, BF1TQ170 (Olympus 3,8,-6,0mm). Results. Aspirations with FB predominate in children aged 1-2 years - 62,4%:95CI, 51,7-72,2, in children of 2-3 years old 15,1%:95CI, 8,5-24, episodic in infants of 8-12 months (11,8%:95CI, 6,1-20,2) and children >3 years old (10,8%:95CI, 5,3-18,9); χ2=42,5; p<0,001. FB wich were extracted out of the bronchial tree in 87,9%:95CI,81,1-92,9 were of organic origin: 43,9%:95CI,35,3-52,8 –seeds; 22,7%:95CI,15,9-30,8 – nuts; 21,2%:95CI,14,6-29,2 –meat, apples; 12,1%:95CI,7,1-18,9 –bone fragments. The bronchoscopy diagnosed a catarrhal endobronchitis in 14%:95CI,7,7-22,7, catarrhal-purulent – 45,2%:95CI,34,8-55,8, purulent –11,8%:95CI,6,1-20,2, local granulations –10,8%:95CI,5,3-18,9 of cases. Conclusion. In the etiological structure of the aspirations of foreign body in children, those of organic nature predominate, which cause cataral-purulent endobronchitis, sometimes local inflammation with bleeding and granulation formations in case of persistence of foreign body. |
