Background. Frostbite are public health problems, with a prevalence rate in the general population of 12.9% in case of moderate forms, and 1.1% in case of severe forms. Nowadays, this topic represents a special interest due to the possibility to approach it from the perspective of reconstructive surgery. Objective of the study. To study the clinical evolution of patients with frostbite by III-IV degree, their compliance with the drug therapy, the frequency of amputation of affected segments and the rate of complications. Material and Methods. The work was performed on a group of 58 patients with frostbite by III-IV degree. The analyzed characteristics were: affected area, treatment methods, antibiotic therapy used, complication rate etc. Results. Of the total number of 58 patients, 37.93% of the cases had frostbite by III-IV degree of the foot, foot and calf in 24% of cases, and the lower third of the upper limb in 29% of cases. 36.2% of patients presented at hospitalization a pronounced demarcation line, as a result, they were subjected to emergency amputation. Other 43.1% cases were applied to the amputation of this segment. Conclusion. Frostbite is a challenge for modern medicine because it is difficult to treat and as a result has a high rate of disability (81%). Urgently performing of surgical debridement and amputations increase the chances of a successful prosthesis. |
