Rezumat

Migration is a phenomenon as old as mankind. The modern era but especially the contemporary one has known a diversification of the migration phenomenon and a constant increase of the number of migrants. The migratory movement of the Jewish people is probably the oldest and most traditional example of the phenomenon. By 1835, when Bessarabia was gradually beginning to lose its autonomy and Russification actions were multiplying, Russian anti-Jewish laws extended to Bessarabian Jews. In 1869, 1879 and 1891, decrees were issued which provided for the exile of Jews from several cities. In the Russian Empire the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century were marked by massive Jewish pogroms, which in addition to the effects of the civil war strongly marked the demographic situation and population migration in Bessarabia. In this historical context are the stories of Jacqueline Alis-Barchmann, who with great attention to detail describes the adventure of migrating her ancestors in the whirlwind of dramatic events of the change of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. We aim to approach the subject from a historical perspective, but also exemplifying through a retrospective the fate of a Jewish family, a branch whose roots are in Bessarabia
