Rezumat

Gagauz carpets, unlike piled carpets from the Caucasus, the Middle Asia, the Middle East and the Near East are of flat-woven texture. Pileless flat-woven carpets belong to the most ancient type of carpet-making: according to scientists, its origin goes back to weaving proper. To a greater extent, traditions of pileless carpet-making have been preserved in Europe, in the Small Asia and in the Caucasus, where several types of flat-woven carpets have appeared in the course of history: kilim, palas, sumach. Gagauz carpets belong to the group of kilims Gagauz folk carpet-making was primarily formed as a branch of household production. Each peasant family produced all things necessary for its life: cloth and linen for clothes, sackcloth for domestic needs, carpets, etc. Gagauz carpet so far is still poorly understood..
